about

Swiss label !Organism now turn to the East for their next release, with Japanese duo Drunken Kong behind three great originals. Bolstering the rugged package is a remix from Sweden’s Manic Brothers.

Drunken Kong is D. Singh and DJ Kyoko, a pair that started working together in 2010 and who since then have focussed on experimenting with different styles of techno. They are regulars in clubs like Womb and have released on Loose Records, Parlez and many more. Here they impress with their well produced grooves and unique moods.

Opening up proceedings in fine style is the title track, which wastes no time in laying down a tough drum line and rumbling bass. It’s a textured track with all sorts of clicks and claps peppering the air waves, and a distant sense of an on-coming apocalypse adds real tension. Remixing are Manic Brothers, aka two siblings who have had hits on Soma and Drumcode and who play legendary festivals and venues such as Awakenings and Berghain. Their powerful version is even more high tempo, rising up and up in intensity with thumping drum kicks, rave stabs and incendiary percussion.

‘Five Fingers’ is the next excellent original and this one is a supple, skittish techno groove that hurries along a sick and slick groove with a real sense of urgency. Subtle hi hats tick up top, the drums roll below and there is an industrial feel to the whole thing that really stands it out.

Lastly, ‘Frontline’ plays with a lively drum pattern that makes you want to get loose. Dark vocal ad libs, coarse hits and lots of reverb and delay all make this one a perfectly peak time weapon that will cause serious chaos on the floor.

Drunken Kong show that they have plenty of different styles in their locker on this latest and greatest !Organism EP.
