about

After a recent collaborative EP with Marck D on the Organism label, Andres Gil is back with more techno missives in the form of his ‘Look At The Sky’ EP, complete with remixes from Markantonio.

Gil is also known for running Refluxed Records and releasing on the likes of Great Stuff and Yellow and has a finely honed techno sound that comes up trumps once again here. First is the title track ‘Look at the Sky’ which is a rumbling bit of techno with heavy thumping kick drums, sparse and post-apocalyptic synth work and plenty of hypnotic loops.

‘Be Strong’ moves up and down as well as propelling you forwards thanks to the vast rubbery kicks and sanded smooth hi hats that roll endlessly in unison toward an infinite imagined horizon. It’s stark yet emotive thanks to the character of the various mysterious and unsettling synth hooks and goes through many shades of doom before its end.

‘Smile To All’ features another thick cut and barrelling groove, but this time its pepper with acid squiggles, indecipherable, chopped up vocals and a subtle, subdued sense of techno funk. It’s third fine example of how to craft frictionless and heady grooves for backrooms everywhere, before Italian 1605 and Recycled Loops producer Markantonio offers his remix.

Having been producing for more than a decade this man has some serious know how and puts all that to good use on his version, which is an even deeper and warmer tunnel of well trimmed loops and pulsing drums.

Right up there with the likes of Drumcode and Minus,!Organism is a pure techno label with a wealth of great talent on its roster as exemplified once more by this latest EP.
